The Brief

A user manual for BerleyPro which takes a first-time owner from “box open” to “that was easy”—with clear setup, confident first use, and simple maintenance for long-term reliability. The goal: make assembly and first use simple, answer questions before they’re asked, and reduce setup enquiries over time.

Our Process

1. Map the path

We began with quick research and a client workshop to explore what “first-use success” looks like. From there we planned the document journey, defining exactly what needed to be outlined in the document and making sure the nuances are well understood. Spending time with BerleyPro provided critical insight into the intent behind the product and intelligence of its design.

2. Template Creation

Next we built a reusable document style guide so every page feels deliberate and consistent. A monochrome palette keeps print reliable and cost friendly. Clear hierarchy for headings, steps, and callouts makes scanning easy. A simple custom icon set and a tidy grid with generous white space help the manual feel engineered and on brand.

3. Detailed storyboarding

We turned walkthrough videos and notes into step lists and rough page wireframes. Each step covers one action so readers never juggle too much at once. Any “gotchas” had their own illustrations and steps where they cannot be missed. We kept the tone plain English and placed a QR code beside the assembly section for optional video support.

4. Illustrations

Using CAD as a base for the assembly steps, we produced consistent line art with views that make part orientation obvious at a glance. Bold curved arrows show how things move rather than just where to point them. We ran quick first-timer checks and refined panels for context and clarity before locking the final set.
